Inflatable jackets, also known as "lifejackets", require annual maintenance. You can do this yourself by following the steps below. We recommend that the maintenance is done twice every season.
1. First examined the outer condition of the jacket and check that the outer shell is intact.
2. Then check the straps and seams.
3. Check the functionality of the buckle.
4. After this, open the vest to its full. At this point, you should be aware of the manner in which the bladder was packed within the protective shell, in order to get it packaged in the same way. Depending on the model of the bladder you may also be find re-packing instructions on the surface of the bladder. In this case, follow them.
As a rule of thumb, the bladder is folded so that the bladder does not get coiled or folded so that sharp folds appear. The instructions under the trigger helps you determine if the jacket is operational. If the green seal is missing, the jacket is probably not operational. In this case, continue from step 5.
5. Remove the pressure-bottle by rotating the bottle counterclockwise.
6. Check the bottle top. If it has a hole, the tank has emptied. If this is the case, change the bottle to a new one.
7. If the bottle surface is oxidized or rusty, it is recommended that you replace the bottle as the loose rust may damage the bladder.
8. Next, detach the fuse by rotating it counterclockwise. Check the expiry date on surface of the fuse, which are marked in white letters on the side of the fuse. Replace the fuse if necessary.
9. Manually fill the bladder with air by blowing into the blowing-tube. The bladder has to keep the pressure for at least 24 hours. If leaks are found, please contact your retailer for more instructions.
10. Empty the bladder by using the caps other end, so that all the air gets out. The easiest way to do this, is on a flat surface or a table, by pressing the bladder thoroughly. A completely empty bladder is easy to fold into the protective shell.
11. Please Note! If the jacket has triggered, replace the fuse BEFORE replacing the pressure-bottle.
